Taekwondo

We had a very early start this morning with the Taekwondo.  We were on the tube with all the peak hour commuters at 7am .  We really enjoyed the Taekwondo.  Thankfully they explained the rules at the beginning which made the session really enjoyable.  15 minutes is allocated for each match.  The match consists of 3x2minute rounds with 1 minute between each round.  Points are awarded for different styles of kicks with the most points being awarded for spinning head kicks.  There is also a video ref if needed and it was used several times while we were there.  You get to see the footage as the video ref looks at it and it made is easy to see why a decision was made.
We had a much needed afternoon chilling out at home.

    Hi Guys,
    More neat photos, thanks.
So who took the self portrait of you two? Were you holding the camera Finn? Or did you sit the camera on the hand-rail, and use the auto-timer, and you got a surprise when it took the pic?
    Love,
    Len & Judy

    1. I took the photo by reversing the camera on my iPhone. Makes it real easy to take self portraits within army's length. You are quick off the mark, commenting on the posts I added today just moments after I posted them!

  2. I watched a little of the NZ girl Robyn. Had no idea of the rules. Robyn's match had the video ref used several times. It was interesting that the coach? could question the decision made by the ref. We were eliminated in the first round. The height difference between the girls must difference with those powerful leg kicks.

  3. Hi Deb & Finn!
We watched some of the taekwondo last night. If we understand correctly there were pressure sensors to help determine the points, including ones in their socks! We saw a decision go to the video ref as well, so know what you were talking about there. Part of what I enjoyed was seeing the culture of Taekwondo, and the respect that is shown from the contenders towards each other as well as the officials, etc.
    Lots of love xoxo

    1. Yes there are sensors in their socks! There was a definite way that each match was carried out.. It's all very respectful.
