It's around 17-18C today and showers on and off. A good day for visiting the Louvre. We caught the Metro to the closest stop and spent most of the morning trying to find our way through the maze of rooms and buildings that make up the Louvre.
We saw the Mona Lisa (along with all the crowds) and got close enough to take a photo. Saw the Venus de Milo and saw other significant paintings. Finn liked the foundations of the original Louvre down on level -1. We walked through some of the Egyptian rooms but for some reason Finn found them really spooky. So we didn't stay in that wing for long.
We had lunch in a cafe inside the Louvre. So maybe we didn't get ripped off yesterday. Finn's coke was E4.50 and a coffee cost E5.50. Needless to say I didn't buy a coffee this time. Both drinks were cheaper at the restaurnat we went to last night.
I hadn't realised how much the cost would vary between European Union Countries. I'd just assumed that things would be a similar price here as in Rome.
This afternoon we were going to go to the Tour Eiffel but it was pouring so we did a loop on the hop on hop off bus instead. We are hoping for better weather in the morning and we'll try to go to the Eiffel Tower then.
Hope you have been enjoying the school holidays.
To my Titahi Bay friends, have an awesome day with Mary tomorrow. I'll be thinking of you :-)
Adam- Spiderman comics sound good. Keep them. From Finn
Hi Deb & Finn :-)
ReplyDeleteThe Louvre sounds fascinating, I'd love to get lost in there. The exhibits must be amazing, and the art is undeniably better being the 'real thing' rather than a print or a picture, being able to see the colors as they really are, the brush strokes... Just a shame that there are so many other people there that you need to que with and move around.
On holiday food always seems to be the thing that blows out the budget, no matter how much spending money you save it never seems to be enough and disappears so quickly, then since its been spent on food it feels like you have nothing to show for it, on the upside, you shouldn't go over your luggage allowance coming home ;-)
Good choice leaving the Effiel tower for another day, I imagine it would get quite cold up there on a showery windy day. As long as you have good weather for the weekend... Looking forward to seeing the photo of you both up the Effiel tower.
xoxo
Hi Deb & Finn,
ReplyDeleteWe are really enjoying reading about your adventures. Much to soak up, the people, the visual grandeur and the emotional reaction to it all. Your mind and feelings can really bring up a sense of the past in these old and ancient places.
And money, always an issue with money. Coffee cheaper if you drink it standing at the counter - dearer if you sit inside to drink it, and dearest of all if you sit outside to sup. With unknown ways, and locals always on the lookout for a chance to fleece, the challenge is on!
Thanks for the really nice photos received today. Super!
May the fun continue, and the pace not slacken!
Love, from us.
