The Roman Baths
We visited the Roman Baths today and I was totally impressed. I last visited the Roman Baths around 12 years ago. I am very impressed with the improvements that they have made to the visitor experience since then. They have updated their displays and made them more user friendly (similar to Te Papa), they have interactive displays and they have used data projectors to display visuals of the people who would have been at the Baths in Roman times. We could follow a bunch of characters from different walks of life. They also provide everyone with an audio guide that even has a kids version. It really made the trip. I would highly recommend the Roman Baths to anyone visiting Bath.
We saw another chalk horse today from the hop on hop off bus skyline tour. The horse was about 18 miles away and we could see it clearly! How cool is that. We were up in the hills surrounding Bath and we got great views back towards Bath which is situated in a valley.
This afternoon we played mini golf just below the Royal Crescent and Finn had a play at the Royal Victoria Park children's playground. Was great to run around :-)

Hi Adventurers
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic time learning about the Roman Bath house. How's that for combining ancient history with interactive sections and modern technology including a children's version of the history. Did your imagination take you back to the roman era. I am going to convert 18 miles in to kms. Those horses must be amazing.
Glad you had time for some golf and play.
Love you lots Mum
Hi Deb & Finn!
ReplyDeleteThe tour around the Roman bath house sounds good... The big question still remains... We're you allowed to touch the mineral water? Take off your shoes and soak your feet at the end of the tour?
The hop on hop off buses that you have been using in the various country's sound like the perfect way to get around and see all the main sights, so easy. Taking a break from being tourists for a while and having a play would have been rejuvenating :-)
Lots of love xoxo
No, you are not allowed to even touch the water. It is untreated and doesn't look great. Would much rather soak in the hot pools in Taupo.
DeleteIt pretty much looks like you'd expect bath water from 30BC to look like :-)
DeleteBath was one of my favourite places, I'm pleased you got the chance to go there. My work colleague has a screen saver of the olympic village as her husband is in charge of media for the waterpolo. Everytime I see it I think of you both. We got your postcard from Paris today thanks.
