Hot Hot Hot

To give you an idea of how hot it is here, last night the temperature at 7.30pm was 32c.  We watched the weather on the news and it said we'd had 38c during the day.  Of course, everyone knows in the central city it's always a few degees hotter than what the weather man said!  So it must be at least 40c.

Today we have done the full round of the hop on hop off bus tour.  I wonder if you'd ever get used to the splendor of ancient Rome.  It's amazing really.  We've seen buildings built on buildings built on buildings and still used today.  How cool is that.

Today we went to the mouth of truth at the church S. Maria in Cosmedin.  You put your hand in it's mouth and if you tell lies it will bite your hand off.  Luckily we both still have hands to write our adventures with!

We also went to the Capitoline Museums and saw famous sculptures and bits of temples and the like.

Tomorrow we are fulfilling my dream of visiting Pompeii.  It's a 14 hour tour because of the travel time to Naples and beyond from Rome - so we won't have a post on the blog tomorrow.  Look for our adventures the next day.  We're really appreciating your comments. We read them each time we log in.

Caio,
Deb and Finn

PS we are trying to find a way of putting on some photos.  It's not obvious when everything is written in italian and at an internet cafe.  Will keep trying though.

  1. Wow that really is hot! I don't know how I would cope in that heat, especially keeping as active as you are. I hope you have spare SD cards to store lots of pictures... I'll have to book a holiday to come and see you when you get back so I can come and see them all. Being amongst such old historic buildings and artifacts must be awe inspiring.
The trip to Pompeii is going to be a big day. I hope there is air conditioning on the bus! Look forward to hearing all about it . xxx

  2. Wow the heat must be very tiring. Thought some of the museum buildings would be cooler with the thick walls. What do you think the density of some of the older walls are - half a metre?
Have you been to any to gladiator arenas? History comes flooding back when you let your imagination recall all the things you have been told or read over the years.
Love you all. Pompeii is really fascinating.
    Love Mum

  3. Hey Finn, Coach Matthew scored a lovely goal today at football. Chipped it over the keeper who was running out, with his left foot!

We won 6-3. It was not 38 degrees, but still a nice day ... a lot less rain than when you came to our game last week!

    Ciao,
    Dad.

  5. Hi Deb & Finn
While you are overheating there we have been doing a freeze here. What an interesting time you are having there. You will both be tired after your Pompeii trip, but what a wonderful experience it will be. Love to you both.
